Devlog 04: Feedback Adjusted Build


We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from our playtesting sessions, and we have updated our game to address some of the most common feedback we received. Below is a list of all the changes we've made. For a visual presentation, feel free to watch the attached demo video.

Gameplay:

Improved Camera

  • We fixed a bug where players will be able to see through the wall if their camera was too close to it, We also removed the function to peak left and right as players were not really using this feature.

Off Ledge Recovery

  • Walking off a platform will now make the player grab onto the ledge instead of falling off.
  • This will prevent players from a lot of accidental deaths.

Vending Machines

  • Changed dialogue for saving at vending machines to not mention stamina as players were confused since there’s no stamina meter for this game.
  • When saving at a vending machine players will be able to replenish their drinks which is used as lives in this game.
  • If a player dies while still having drinks left, they will respawn at the last platform they were on, otherwise they will respawn back at the vending machine.

Music Player

  • A lot of players mentioned they really enjoyed the music for our game, and would like to have more control over what music they can listen to. We decided to add a music player to our game, which players can bring up by pressing Q, they will then be able to play, pause, or select which songs they want to listen to while playing. More music will be added throughout the levels as collectables in the next milestone.

Controls:

Climb

  • A lot of players felt that the climb controls could be more fluid, so we decided to remove R entirely, and have the players grab onto ledges using E, and climb up using W.
  • We have also increased to movement speed while climbing along an edge.

Running

  • We also changed our shift into a sprint button, this was previously used for slow walking but we found that players weren’t really using it during our playtest.
  • In addition to being able to move faster, the player will also be able to jump further when sprinting.
  • Players will also be able to sprint off a ledge without triggering auto ledge grab.
  • The pause menu control has also been updated to reflect these changes.
